How it works

Forecast the storm before it floods.

RA-FEWS turns DWD ICON-EPS ensembles, IMERG precipitation, and your watch zones into early warnings you can act on, with full transparency on the science behind every number and on how well our own forecasts perform.

From forecast to warning

Four steps, run every forecast cycle.

STEP 1

Ingest the ensemble

Every cycle we pull the 40-member DWD ICON-EPS ensemble and IMERG observed rainfall.

STEP 2

Forecast your catchments

Rainfall becomes discharge forecasts for the catchments and gauges you choose, both deterministic and probabilistic.

STEP 3

Check your thresholds

Each forecast is compared to your warning thresholds, giving exceedance probabilities: how likely, how early.

STEP 4

Act on the warning

Per-zone alerts by email, push and SMS, with the science behind every number one click away.

What you get

Designed for civil-defense officers, water utilities, and hydrologists.

Ensemble forecasts

40-member ICON-EPS ensemble with probabilistic bands, not just the deterministic line.

Custom watch zones

Draw catchments, gauges, or service areas. Receive per-zone thresholds and alerts.

Verification metrics

Bias, RMSE, CRPS, Brier: see how the forecast performed on the events you care about.

Multi-model

ICON, ICON-EPS, IMERG side-by-side. Compare deterministic and probabilistic guidance.

Explainable

Every metric carries a tiered explanation: a tooltip, a side panel, and a full methodology page.

Download your data

Export the forecast hydrographs and the underlying data for your own analysis, reports, or records.

Interactive GIS map

Pan, zoom and inspect every layer on one live map: precipitation overlays, catchments, watch zones and gauge markers, all in a full GIS environment.

The warning gets louder

Days out, the ensemble spreads wide. As the event nears, the members converge and exceedance probabilities climb, so each forecast cycle gives a clearer, more confident signal.

Every number is traceable: a tooltip and a side panel explain the science behind each metric, and a verification scorecard shows how well past warnings actually performed, so you can always see how a forecast was produced and how much to trust it.
